The CW moves to a different kind of superhero series tonight with “The Chosen” (CW, 8 p.m.), a historical drama about the life of Jesus and the people he meets back in the first century. Jonathan Roumie plays J.C. in the American-made series from Dallas Jenkins.
Originally crowd-sourced, it first premiered in 2017 and has been presented in parts theatrically. The first three 8-episode seasons will play through Christmas Eve. If it looks familiar, the first two seasons have been already available streaming on Peacock and Amazon Prime; the first season is also on Netflix. And a fourth season is in the works, with seven seasons planned overall. Additionally, translations are planned in 600 languages, begging the question: Are there 600 languages?
A Biblical figure is not at the center of another new miniseries tonight, despite the title. Instead, “Goliath” (Showtime, 10 p.m.) is a three-episode documentary series about NBA legend Wilt Chamberlain.
The men’s final at Wimbledon (ESPN, 10 a.m.) this morning will have Novak Djokovic vs. Carlos Alcaraz. The women’s doubles final is at noon.
Why wait for the movie to begin the TV tie-ins? Here’s the “Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge” (HGTV, 8 p.m.) a four-episode challenge in which some of the network’s star renovators get to work making a life-size Barbie house. Ashley Graham hosts.
“The Real Housewives of New York City” (Bravo, 9 p.m.) returns for its 14th season with an all new cast.
The world of youth MMA and kids cage fighting is followed in the disturbing documentary “Kids in a Cage” (A&E, 9 p.m.).
