Songs about actors and actors singing songs dominated Capital Radio this week, in support of the actors union joining the writers strike. That meant Montgomery Clift, Clint Eastwood, Robert De Niro and Michael Kane were subjects of songs; and the likes of Jack Webb, Telly Savalas, Buddy Essen, Joe Pesci and Mae West all sang pop tunes with varying degrees of success.
Aside from these Golden Throats, were were actual hits from Johnny Crawford, Lorne Greene, Richard Harris, Bruce Willis and Don Johnson.
To note Fridays local show from First Aid Kit, there was a couple of selections from them, and two artists, they’ve extolled in song, Emmylou Harris and Gram Parsons.
Birthdays were noted for Spencer Davis (born this day in 1939), Sweet drummer Mick Tucker (1947),Phoebe Snow (1950), Jimmy Scott (1925), Nicolette Larson (1952), Vince Guaraldi (1928), Red Sovine (1917) and Ron Asheton of the Stooges (1948). Today was also the birthdays of Lou Barlow of Sebadoh (turning 57) and Panda Bear (45).
