As American scripted fare reaches a standstill, new shows come in from the North, with two new Canadian comedies debuting tonight. “Son of a Critch” (CW, 8 p.m.), pictured above, concerns an 11 year old growing up in Newfoundland, based on Mark Critch’s memoir. Benjamin Evan Ainsworth stars.

It debuts with a pair of episodes as does the accompanying “Children Ruin Everything” (CW, 9 p.m.) about a young couple trying to raise their kids. Adam Abrams and Meaghan Rath star.

The two-episode documentary “The Golden Boy” (HBO, 9 p.m.) looks into the life and boxing career of Oscar De La Hoya.

A woman paralyzed with late-stage ALS struggles to stay alive for her daughter’s wedding using dark humor in the documentary “Eat Your Catfish,” making its debut on “POV” (PBS, 10 p.m., check local listings).

Shark Week specials tonight have the “Great White Fight Club” (Discovery, 8 p.m.), “Monsters of the Bermuda Triangle” (Discovery, 9 p.m.) and “Alien Sharks: Strange New Worlds” (Discovery, 10 p.m.).

A new French-language crime drama, “The Best of Us” (Acorn TV, streaming) stars Mariama Gueye as a city cop investigating a murder in a small Alpine village.

“Futurama” (Hulu, streaming) returns — after a 10-year gap — for its 11th season. And because it’s animated it doesn’t look like anyone has aged a bit.

New for preschoolers is the animated “Dew Drop Diaries” (Netflix, streaming) about a family of tiny fairies.
