The CW was originally named for the studios that joined forces to create it — CBS and Warner Bros. Now, the letters might as well stand for Canadian Works, as two more series from the Great North begin their seasons. Along with the fourth season start of the “Great Chocolate Showdown” (CW, 8 p.m.), there is the new “Recipe for Disaster” (CW, 9 p.m.) in which pro chefs are paired with novices and given simulated kitchen disasters; it begins with a pair of episodes tonight.
They play opposite a new episode of “Baking It” (NBC, 8 p.m.) making Saturday night more of a network cooking night.
Such imports are partly the result of the Hollywood strikes challenging networks for content. Another way to combat it is to introduce shows that have heretofore only been offered through streaming subscriptions. So from Disney+ comes the well received “Ms. Marvel” (ABC, 8 p.m.), starring Iman Vellani as an Avengers superfan who happens to get some of her own superpowers, too. It makes its broadcast debut by completely taking over prime time with three consecutive hour-long episodes.
The new three-part nature documentary series “The Wild Sides” (BBC America, 8 p.m.) explores wildlife in Botswana’s drought-ravaged Mashatu region.
The Atlanta-based series “Johnson” (BBC America, 8 p.m.) returns for a third season with a pair of episodes.
Holland Rodeo plays a music executive who finds the lead singer of a band she is to sign is actually an old boyfriend (Corey Cott) in the made-for-TV romance “Making Waves” (Hallmark, 8 p.m.).
