Started this week’s show with a salute to Paul Reubens who died a week ago at 70 and played a few tracks performed at shows I saw last week — from Jason Isbell, Regina Spektor and Aimee Mann among others.

Birthdays today included Rashaan Roland Kirk (born this day in 1935), B.J. Thomas (1942), Billie Burke (1884), as well as Kristin Hersh of Throwing Muses (turning 57 today), Ian Dench of EMF (59) and Raul Malo of The Mavericks (58).

But had a special set to mark the birthday of Felice Bryant, born this day in 1925, who was half of the prolific songwriting team behind many Everly Brothers hits.

The film “Oppenheimer” inspired a couple of long sets of what he wrought (though it didn’t inspire the only song I could find with his name, from the Old 97’s). Closed with some of the songs DJ Kool Herc played at Back to School Jam 50 years ago this week, an event now associated with the birth of hip-hop.
