U.S. anthropologist Clyde Snow trains a new group of Latin American Students in the use of forensic anthropology in order to investigate disappearances during conflicts in Argentina, El Salvador, Bolivia and Mexico in Bernardo Ruiz’s documentary “El Equipo,” making its debut tonight on “Independent Lens” (PBS, 10 p.m., check local listings).

Another feature documentary looks at the 1998 tragedy in “The Matthew Shepard Story: An American Hate Crime” (Investigation Discovery, 9 p.m.).

“Halloween Baking Championship” (Food, 9 p.m.) salutes a carnival escape artist who died on the job. Four are left on “Halloween Cookie Challenge” (Food, 10 p.m.). 

Jackie Christie introduces a newcomer to the “Basketball Wives” (VH1, 9 p.m.). There are so many NBA spouses by now there’s a new spin-off, “Basketball Wives: Orlando” (VH1, 8 p.m.).

Turner Classic Movies begins the first part of a series of films about national parks and landmarks with “How the West Was Won” (8 p.m.), “Sequoia” (11 p.m.), a trio of travel films starting with “Glacier Park and Waterton Lakes” (12:30 a.m.). “Dangerous Mission” (1:30 a.m.), “Gun Crazy” (3 a.m.) and “Around the World” (4:30 a.m.)
