It’s a time when filmmakers have to decide whether to make their stories into movies or stretch their into multi-hour series. Sometimes they can change their minds. Baz Luhrmann, of “Elvis” and “Moulin Rouge” fame has taken his nearly forgotten drama “Australia,” called back stars Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, restored cut footage, cut some more, changed the ending to make it a six-part series “Faraway Downs” (Hulu, streaming). 

Part of the appetite for a new Western-style series with starry casting comes due to the success of “Yellowstone” (CBS, 9 and 10 p.m.) still rerunning on the broadcast network. 

SWV, CA, Coco Jones, BJ the Chicago Kid, Dante Bowe, Fridayy and Muni Long are among the performers at the Soul Train Awards (BET, VH1, 8 p.m.). Keke Palmer hosts the event, where Janelle Monáe will receive a special awards and Summer Walker, SZA and Usher are tied for most nominations. It’s followed by a second season start for “Kingdom Business” (BET, VH1, 10:05 p.m.).

“The Great Christmas Light Fight” (ABC, 10 p.m.) returns for a new season by showing highlights of past seasons. It follows two hours of Christmas highlights from theme parks on “The Wonderful World of Disney: Magical Holiday Celebration” (ABC, 8 p.m.). 

Sunday Night Football has Baltimore at Chargers (NBC, 8:20 p.m.). Earlier games have Pittsburgh at Cincinnati (CBS, 1 p.m.), New England at Giants (Fox, 1 p.m.) and Buffalo at Philadelphia (CBS, 4:15 p.m.). 

Ada has to weigh marriage with alienating her increasingly dour sister Agnes on “The Gilded Age” (HBO, 9 p.m.). Then it’s off to Newport for a dinner with the Duke. 

Asher gets to know the family behind “The Curse” (Showtime, 10 p.m.).

“Fellow Travelers” (Showtime, 9 p.m.) deals with the McCarthy hearings. 

Another handful of new holiday films debut tonight with “Our Christmas Mural” (Hallmark, 6 p.m.) starring Alex Paxton-Beesley and Dan Jeannotte, “Mistletoe Connection” (UPtv, 7 p.m.) with Jesica Sipos and Marian Tarasluk, “A Christmas for the Ages” (Great American Family, 8 p.m.) with Natasha Bure, “A Biltmore Christmas” (Hallmark, 8 p.m.) with Bethany Joy Lenz and Kristofferer Polaha, and “Laughing All the Way” (Lifetime, 8 p.m.), with Paniz Zade and Jake Epstein. 

“Concorde: The Untold Story” (Smithsonian, 8 p.m.) looks at the history of the supersonic flyer. 

Grieving Ukrainian families climb the Alps on a 90-minute edition of “60 Minutes” (CBS, 7:30 p.m.).

“Yellowstone Wardens” (Animal Planet, 9 p.m.) catch a repeat offender. 

Disciples go preach on “The Chosen” (CW, 8 p.m.). 

“Unsellable Houses” (HGTV, 8 p.m.) has its season finale with a Woodinville, Wash. 

The kids get in trouble with a fortune-telling giant clam on “Bob’s Burgers” (Fox, 9 p.m.). 

“Incredible Animal Journeys” (National Geographic, 9 p.m.) goes to Alaska. 

UNO and Connect Four are resurrected in the 1970s on the first of two episodes of “Toys That Build America” (History, 9 p.m.). 

Turner Classic Movies has a double-feature tribute to director William Friedkin, who died in August at 87, with the documentary “Friedkin Uncut” (8 p.m.) and “The Exorcist” (10 p.m.). The midnight silent movie is the 1912 “Cleopatra” (12:15 a.m.), followed by two from Yasujiro Ozu, “Late Autumn” (2 a.m.) and “Ohayo” (4:30 a.m.). 

Hockey has St. Louis at Chicago (NHL, 2 p.m.) and Columbus at Carolina (NHL, 5 p.m.).

Men’s college basketball includes Penn State vs. VCU (ESPNU, 10:30 a.m.), Florida Atlantic vs. Virginia Tech (ESPN, 1 p.m.), Butler vs. Boise State (ESPN2, 4 p.m.), Texas A&M vs. Iowa State (ESPN2, 6:30 p.m.) and Minnesota at San Francisco (CBS Sports, 8:30 p.m.).
