It seemed like a particularly busy day for birthdays to note today, including Johnny Thunders (in 1952), post-punk’s Ian Curtis (1956), reggae’s Gregory Isaacs (1951), country’s Cowboy Copas (1913) and the British pop singer Twinkle (1948). Dorothy Fields, lyricist to “The Way You Look Tonight,” and hundreds of other songs, was born this day in 1904.

Linda Ronstadt turns 78 today, punk’s Marky Ramone is 72; Peter Lewis of Moby Grape is 79, as is disco’s Alicia Bridges. And R&B singer Millie Jackson is 80.

Trevor Horn, turning 75, was a member of the Buggles, Art of Noise and Yes, but we heard five examples of his extensive production work, on songs by Grace Jones, ABC and Seal, among others.

Ended with a baker’s dozen of songs about California, where your host happened to be today.
