The Olympic Games and especially its way out opening ceremonies last got us panting for Paris with a set of French stars and songs about the City of Light (nothing about the competitions, however). 

Birthdays were noted for figures as wide ranging as Charlie Christian, Danger Mouse, Captain Lou Albano and Patti Scialfa. Shows I saw last week by Elvis Costello (as part of a Daryl Hall tour) and Beck inspired short sets about their selections. 

And we noted the anniversaries today of Bob Dylan’s motorcycle accident that changed the direction of his music in 1966 and the death of Mama Cass Elliott 50 years ago today at the age of 32.

The deaths last week of British bluesman John Mayall at 90 and the last surviving member of the Four Tops, Duke Fakir were commemorated and there was time to note another passing, announced just yesterday, of Martin Phillipps of The Chills at 61.
