We welcome Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as the Democratic vice presidential nominee with nine songs working the puns about his name, another handful employing his go-to GOP descriptor, weird; as well as a couple of titles he’s already referenced in speeches, some representative Minnesota music he’s praised, one of the songs Bon Iver played at his rally last week; and his favorite songs by Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen.
There were a lot of birthdays to note, including Pat Metheny, turning 70 today; Mark Knopfler, 75; Del the Funky Homosapian, 52; Ron Mael of Sparks, 79; and Sir Mix-A-Lot, 61.
There were birthday salutes, too, to bluesman Percy Mayfield, born this day in 1920, Bakersfield’s Buck Owens (1929) and another country star Porter Wagoner (1927),
