Hot dog eating contests are usually confined to July 4th but a new competition in which longtime champ Joey Chestnut faces off against six-time champ Takeru Kobayashi is now a streaming event on Labor Day in “Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef” (Netflix, 3 p.m.). On the other hand, others program the day as if it were “Independence Day” (TNT, 8 p.m.). 

Labor Day supposedly kicks off the campaign season in earnest, and two consecutive episodes of “The Whole Story with Anderson Cooper” (CNN, 8 p.m.) looks at the policy stances of the two presidential candidates. Audie Cornish reports “Fight for the White House: Where Harris Stands” first, and then Abby Phillip presents “Fight for the White House: Where Trump Stands” at 9.

The two-night special “The Chicano Squad” (A&E, 9 p.m.) follows a pair of bilingual cops chosen to head the first all-Latin homicide unit in Houston. It concludes Tuesday.

Franklin puts Logan’s colleagues on the stand on “61st Street” (CW, 9 p.m.).

“American Ninja Warrior” (NBC, 9 p.m.) continue finals in Las Vegas. 

Game shows tonight include “Name That Tune” (Fox, 8 p.m.), “The 1% Club” (Fox, 9 p.m.) and “The Wall” (NBC, 10 p.m.). 

“History’s Greatest Escapes with Morgan Freeman” (History, 9 p.m.) tells the story of a man who broke out of a maximum-security cell when he learned he was going to be a father.

Efforts are made to bring back baseball to Bringston on “All American: Homecoming” (CW, 8 p.m.).

“Born Evil: The Serial Killer and the Savior” (Investigation Discovery, 9 p.m.) is a five-episode true crime documentary from producer Michael Bay about little known serial killer Hadden Clark.

A new stew joins up “Below Deck Mediterranean” (Bravo, 9 p.m.). 

Unidentified warship packages wash up on the Florida shore on “Contraband: Seized at Sea” (Discovery, 9 p.m.). 

“BBQ Brawl” (Food, 9 p.m.) has to whip up chow for a wedding. 

Tony Hawk helps plan a hangout for a longtime pal on “Celebrity IOU” (HGTV, 9 p.m.). 

“Gangland Chronicles” (History, 10 p.m.) recalls the life of Whitey Bulger.

Cocaine is found in frozen avocado paste on “To Catch a Smuggler” (National Geographic, 9 p.m.). 

The streaming true crime documentary “TikTok Star Murders” (Oxygen, 8 p.m.) comes to cable. 

“Basketball Wives” (VH1, 8 p.m.) try to forge some peace before a bachelorette party. 

Lauren Bacall is Turner Classic Movies’ star of the month, and her September-long Monday night showcase of films begins with “Woman’s World” (8 p.m.), “How to Marry a Millionaire” (10 p.m.), “Designing Woman” (midnight), “Sex and the Single Girl” (2:15 a.m.) and “Young Man with a Horn” (4:15 a.m.).
