Two years after the last episode “The Old Man” (FX, 10 p.m.) finally returns for a second season, with Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow, former CIA and FBI men, off to Afghanistan to rescue the one they both conciser their daughter played by Alia Shawkat. 

Weeks before they return for the 50th season of “Saturday Night Live” the Weekend Edition wags put on a live show at the Bell House in Brooklyn, presenting their favorite local comics on the special “Colin Jost & Michael Che Present: New York After Dark” (Peacock, 9 p.m.).

A mother searches for a daughter she gave up for adoption 35 years earlier only to find she’s disappeared in the two-episode documentary “Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter” (Netflix, streaming). 

Oprah Winfrey — or perhaps an artificially generated facsimile of her — will host the AI special “AI and the Future of Us: An Oprah Winfrey Special” (ABC, 8 P.M.). 

A live eviction tonight will leave just eight left on “Big Brother” (CBS, 8 p.m.). The other game show tonight is “Lucky 13” (ABC, 9 p.m.). 

A three episode documentary follows the life of famed Argentine soccer player, “Angel Di Maria: Breaking Down the Wall” (Netflix, streaming). 

The new true crime series “The Tailor of Sin City” (Sundance, 10 p.m.) follows the story of a small-town tailor built a drug and fashion empire in 1970s Las Vegas with the backing of the mob. 

“Emily in Paris” (Netflix, streaming) releases the final five episodes of its fourth season.

Results from Wednesday’s semifinal performances are told on “America’s Got Talent” (NBC, 8 p.m.).

“Mommy’s Stolen Memories” (Lifetime Movie Network, 8 p.m.) is a made-for-TV thriller about a kidnapping. 

Broadcast TV gets a sampling of the pretty good Peacock comedy “Mr. Throwback” (NBC, 9 p.m.) with Steph Curry and Adam Pally. 

“Lost Treasures of Rome” (National Geographic, 9 p.m.) finds a buried city in Jordan. 

A two-Thursday series of films on the effects of modern technology begins, of course, with “2001: A Space Odyssey” (8 p.m.), followed by “Alphaville” (10:45 p.m.), “Logan’s Run” (12:45 a.m.), “Demon Seed” (3 a.m.) and “Brainstorm” (4:45 a.m.). 

During the day are movies based on real people with “Triple Cross” (6 a.m.), “John Paul Jones” (8:15 a.m.), “Wings and the Woman” (10:30 a.m.) “Convicts 4” (12:15 p.m.), “Dr. Crippen” (2:15 p.m.), “Mrs. Soffel” (4 p.m.) and “Marie: A True Story” (6 p.m.). 

Thursday night football has Buffalo at Miami (Prime Video, 8:15 p.m.). 

Thursday night baseball has Boston at Yankees (Fox, 7 p.m.). 

College football has Arizona State at Texas State (ESPN, 7:30 p.m.). 

WNBA action has New York at Dallas (Prime Video, 8 p.m.).
