Leave it to CBS to revive another of its old series. The 2024 “Matlock” (CBS, 8 p.m.) stars Kathy Bates as the elder lawyer who surprises the young attorneys surrounding her. It’s clever enough, and references the old series (and a lot of old TV shows), but wow, these procedurals go fast, even as the case of the week makes way for a bigger underlying plotline. It will make a good pair with CBS’ other rebooted and re-gendered series, “The Equalizer.” Tonight’s debut is listed as a “sneak peek”; its run will begin Oct. 10.
Another network sneak peek comes for the new series “Rescue: Hi-Surf” (Fox, 8 p.m.) about lifeguards on the North Shore of Oahu, where amid the action in the surf, there are relationships amid the bikini and buff staff, “Baywatch” style. Monday, it appears in its own time slot.
The new four-part series “TV on the Edge: Moments That Shaped Our Culture” (CNN, 9 p.m.) examines specific points in television history, from an unmarried pregnancy “Murphy Brown” to Ellen DeGeneres coming out on “Ellen.”
The sci-fi series about a town you can’t quite leave, “From” (MGM+, 9 p.m.) with Harold Perrineau returns for a second season.
The futuristic series of “Snowpiercer” (AMC, 9 p.m.) comes into the end of the line, with a series finale.
“National Parks: USA” (National Geographic, 8 p.m.) ends its run with a look at iZion National Park.
It’s also the fifth season finale for “Yellowstone Wardens” (Animal Planet, 9 p.m.), who spend it releasing a trapped black bear back into the wild.
The head of household still needs to be determined on “Big Brother” (CBS, 9 p.m.).
In the new episode “Bob’s Burgers” (Fox, 9:30 p.m.), Bob has to teach Sgt. Bosco how to cook a burger.
Sunday Night Football has Kansas City at Atlanta (NBC, 8:15 p.m.). Earlier games include Philadelphia at New Orleans (Fox, 1 p.m.), Chargers at Pittsburgh (CBS, 1 p.m.) and Baltimore at Dallas (Fox, 4:25 p.m.).
On “Moonflower Murders” (PBS, 9 p.m., check local listings) Susan learns more about the former employee found guilty of murder.
The enemies of Jesus close in on “The Chosen” (CW, 8 p.m.).
“Ridley” (PBS, 8 p.m., check local listings) is close to cracking the lead of a local man.
A whistleblower is murdered on “Van der Valk” (PBS, 10 p.m., check local listings).
“Carnival Eats” (Cooking, 9 p.m.) goes to the Daffodil Festival in Connecticut.

“The Penguin” (HBO, 9 p.m.) scrambles to get on top. For those missing the DC Comics connection, it’s preceded by the 1992 “Batman Returns” (HBO, 6:45 p.m.).
