“NCIS” (NBC, 8 p.m.) returning for its 22nd season tonight, is now the third longest running live action primetime scripted series. It’s run so long, it has even outlasted its original star Mark Harmon, so now there’s a new spinoff that looks at the day when Special Agent Jethro Gibbs began in the agency in 1991. 

“NCIS: Origins” (NBC, 9 p.m.), the fifth spinoff of the series, Austin Stowell, above, of “The Dolphin Tale” franchise, takes the role as the younger Gibbs. Harmon, for his part, is both executive producer and narrates the show, which has a two hour premiere. 

Also premiering tonight is a new documentary series about young staff members at a Montana ranch, “The Wranglers” (CW, 9 p.m.). 

The best new series of the fall, “English Teacher” (FX, 10 p.m.), is already reaching its first season finale with a birthday party Malcolm throws for Evan.

On Indigenous Peoples Day, “POV” (PBS, 10 p.m., check local listings) has the story of Inuit lawyer and activist Aaju Peter.

Lila learns the truth about Nino on “My Brilliant Friend” (HBO, 9 p.m.). 

“I Love a Mama’s Boy” (TLC, 9 p.m.) has thoughts about Christmas presents. 

Jazzy’s birthday approaches on “Caught UP” (VH1, 8 p.m.). 

Pat Sajak may have retired from the daily show, but he returns to preside for his last season on “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune” (ABC, 8 p.m.). 

“9-1-1: Lone Star” (Fox, 8 p.m.) tries to help a woman who goes into labor while trapped in an elevator. 

Wolf acts quickly to save a bloody bride on “Brilliant Minds” (NBC, 10 p.m.). 

“Rescue: HI-Surf” (Fox, 9 p.m.) deals with dangerous ocean conditions. 

Jordan begins to spiral on “Superman & Lois” (CW, 8 p.m.). 

“The Voice” (NBC, 8 p.m.) continues blind auditions. 

Gary crashes the tender on “Below Deck Sailing Yacht” (Bravo, 9 p.m.). 

“The Anonymous” (USA, 10 p.m.) faces the final face-off. 

Ricardo Montalban is star on Turner Classic Movies with “Fiesta” (8 p.m.), “Battleground” (10 p.m.), “Mystery Street” (12:15 a.m.), “On an Island with You” (2 a.m.) and “Neptune’s Daughter” (4 a.m.).

During the day TCM has some stories about sisters: “Arsenic and Old Lace” (6 a.m.), “Storm Warning” (8 a.m.), “Four Wives” (10 a.m.), “Delightfully Dangerous” (12:15 p.m.), “Two Sisters from Boston” (2 p.m.), “The Gay Sisters” (6 p.m.) and “The Sisters” (6 p.m.). 

Game 1 of the American League Championship Series has Cleveland at Yankees (TBS, truTV, Max, 7:30 p.m.). NLCS Game 2 has Mets at Dodgers (Fox, 4 p.m.).

Monday Night Football has Buffalo at Jets (ABC, ESPN, 8:15 p.m.). 

Hockey includes Detroit at Rangers (NHL, 7 p.m.). 

Preseason basketball has Philadelphia at Atlanta (NBA, 7:30 p.m.) and Dallas at Clippers (NBA, 10:30 p.m.).
