“Yellowstone” (Paramount, 8 p.m.) certainly accomplished a lot in five seasons and 52 episodes – not least of which was launching the idea of a popular contemporary Western, and the spawning of two spin-offs in “1883” and “1923” and inspiring plans for at least three more. The original series wraps up tonight, with a super-sized one hour, 26 minute finale directed by the show’s creator and writer, Taylor Sheridan, and will likely set the stage for its sequel, due out next year, called “The Madison.”
Sunday Night Football has Green Bay at Seattle (NBC, 8:20 pm.). Earlier games include Washington at New Orleans (Fox, 1 p.m.), Baltimore at Giants (CBS, 1 p.m.), Pittsburgh at Philadelphia (Fox, 4:25 p.m.) and Buffalo at Detroit (CBS, 4:25 p.m.).
The second installment of “Lucy Worsley’s Holmes vs. Doyle” (PBS, 8 p.m.) the historian looks at how Arthur Conan Doylane sought to distance himself from his Holmes character after the detective’s apparent death.
It’s a holiday thing: “The Sound of Music” (ABC, 7 p.m.) gets a prime time showcase and goes on for four hours (with commercials).
Actual new Christmas movies include “Christmas with the Chosen: Holy Night” (CW, 7 p.m.) with performances by Andrea Bocelli; “A Novel Christmas” (UPtv, 7 p.m.) with Brigitte Kingsley and Landy Cannon, about an author and a bookstore owner; and “Following Yonder Star” (Hallmark, 8 p.m.) with Brooke D’Orsay and John Brotherton.
“Krapopolis” (Fox, 9:30 p.m.) hears a prophecy about the downfall of Tyrannis.
The sixth season starts for Donnie Wahlberg’s stab at true crime, “Very Scary People” (Investigation Discovery, 9 p.m.).
The crew on “Bob’s Burgers” (Fox, 9 p.m.) goes to see Christmas lights.
Home tries to improve his relationship with Patty and Selma on “The Simpsons” (Fox, 8:30 p.m.).
The new prequel “Dexter: Original Sin” (Showtime, 10 p.m.), which premiered on Paramount+, gets a premiere on the network for the original series.
“Universal Basic Guys” (Fox, 8 p.m.) go deer hunting.
The Turner Classic Movies pairings of Carol Burnett sketches with the films that inspired them tonight has “The Heiress” (8 p.m.) and “A Stolen Life” (10:30 p.m.). The silent movie at midnight is an hour late with “Little Old New York” (1 a.m.). Then comes two by Japanese director Juzo Itami, “Tampopo” (3 a.m.) and “The Funeral” (5 a.m.).
Basketball includes Dallas at Golden State (NBA, 8:30 p.m.).
Hockey has Islanders at Chicago (NHL, 3 p.m.) and Vegas at Minnesota (NHL, 6 p.m.).
Men’s college basketball includes Nebraska-Omaha at Iowa State (CBS Sports, 1 p.m.).
