Aside from a number of birthdays — of Syd Barrett, Sandy Denny, Doris Troy, Nino Tempo, Van McCoy, Earl Scruggs and Malcolm Young of AC/DC — the first Capital Radio episode of 2025 was largely given over to remembering those who we lost in 2024.

There were more than 40 included, from Kris Kristofferson, Phil Lesh and Dickey Betts to Sergio Mendes, to Kinky Friedman, Martin Mull and Clarence “Frogman” Henry. We honored musicians like Eddie Flowers, bassist on “Walk on the Wild Side,” guitarist Nick Gravenites of Electric Flag and Larry Collins of the Collins Kids, pictured here. Also some personal favorites who passed, such as Charlie Burton, Mojo Nixon and two members of the MC5.

Closed with one of the first deaths of 2025: Brenton Wood.
