I’ve long put psychics into the category of obvious conmen and fraudsters but Lana Wilson’s look at seven New York City psychics (many of them failed actors) shows how their presence may actually be helpful to people troubled by the past, still grieving the dead, or looking for answers about the future. Like good therapists, the psychics in “Look Into My Eyes” (HBO, 10:05 p.m.), like the filmmaker, pause to just listen. The result is disarmingly humane, even for the people trying to connect with their own pets.

Also making its premium cable debut tonight is Mikael Håfstrōm’s “Slingshot” (Showtime, 9 p.m.), the space psychological thriller starring Casey Affleck and Laurence Fishburne. 

First round games in the NFL playoffs have Chargers at Houston (CBS, 4:30 p.m.) and Pittsburgh at Baltimore (Prime Video, 8 p.m.). 

The new anime series “Sakamoto Days” (Netflix, streaming) follows the action manga about an ex-hitman who is threatened in retirement by other assassins.

An animated series meant for a younger audience, “StuGo” (Disney, 8 p.m.) is aobut six middle schoolers tricked by a mad scientist into going to a fake academic camp full of wild creatures.

Rhiannon Fish plays a woman jumps a cruise whip to get to Antartica but spends time with the ship’s engineer (Markian Tarasiuk) in the made-for-TV romance “Polar Opposites” (Hallmark, 8 p.m.).

The made-for-TV thriller “Terror Comes Knocking: The Marcela Borges Story” (Lifetime, 8 p.m.) is about a young family who suffer a home invasion and have to come up with $200,000. Dascha Polanco plays the title character in the story based on a true story. 

A Judy Holliday double feature on Turner Classic Movies tonight has “Born Yesterday” (8 p.m.) and “The Solid Gold Cadillac” (10 p.m.). The 12 o’clock noir is “Deadline at Dawn” (midnight), followed by two with James Coburn: “The Carey Treatment” (1:45 a.m.) and “Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid” (3:30 a.m.), which also stars Kris Kristofferson and Bob Dylan. The midday musical is “Footlight Parade” (noon). 

Hockey has Boston at Florida (ABC, 1 p.m.) and Colorado at Winnipeg (NHL, 7 p.m.).

The latest John Mulaney-hosted “Saturday Night Live” (NBC, 11:30 p.m.) from November, a pretty good one with Chappell Roan, is rerun. The rerun at 10 p.m. is from about a year ago, with Ayo Edebiri and Jennifer Lopez. It returns with live shows next week with Dave Chappelle and GloRilla; Timothée Chalamet is host and musical guest Jan. 28.
