The death of Marianne Faithfull last week at 78 brought a wealth of her songs to Capital Radio this week, from her 60s pop to her electronica dabbling of this century, with canny interpretations of Bacharach, Patti Smith, John Lennon and Tom Waits in between.
Birthdays were celebrated for Dave Davies of The Kinks, turning 78; and Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth, 69; as well as Arthur “Killer” Kane of the New York Dolls, Johnny “Guitar” Watson; Dennis Edwards of the Temptations, among others.
It was 66 years since the Day the Music Died, so a bakers dozen of Buddy Holly tracks as well as Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper.
And once more, we pitted the music of Kansas City vs. that of Philadelphia in advance of the Super Bowl.
