The death of a senior domestic staff member at the White House turns the nation’s most famous building into a crime scene in the latest Shonda Rhimes series, “The Residence” (Netflix, streaming). It plays a little kooky with Uzo Aduba a quirky, deadpan detective amid a high charged cast that includes Randall Park, Ken Marino, , Isiah Whitlock Jr., Giancarlo Esposito as the victim and notably, Al Franken, back portraying a senator. The guest stars won’t stop, with Jane Curtin and Kylie Minogue in the premiere upside and promised appearances from Taran Killam, Branson Pinchot, Jason Lee, and what may be the final appearance of Andre Braugher.
There’s a deep fascination with the White House building itself — it’s the most detailed tour you could get, but like Rimes’ previous “Scandal,” laughably little to do with actual protocol. Bit it is being staged as a comedy — an “Only Murders in the Building” where the building is world renown.
