Supposedly secret messages illegally sent through a commercial texting platform (and carelessly also sent to a journalist) remains the talk of D.C. and was the subject of half of Capital Radio today, with songs about messages, secrets and signal.
Began the show by paying tribute to Eddie Adcock, banjoist of The Country Gentlemen, who died March 20 at 86, and Richard Chamberlain, who died Saturday at 90.
We were already going to play Chamberlain today, though because it would have been his 91st birthday. We also noted the 81st birthday of Mick Ralphs of Mott the Hoople and Bad Company, the 90th of Herb Alpert and the birthdays of country’s Lefty Frizzell, bluesman Lowell Fulson and “Severance” star Christopher Walken, turning 82.
Played a handful of songs written by John D. Loudermilk, born this day in 1934, and sampled a few of the many recordings that Hugh McCracken, born this day in 1942, had added his guitar.
