With an eye to the success of modern Westerns like “Yellowstone,” the new “Ransom Canyon” (Netflix, streaming) treads on some of the same prairie ground, adding a heaping serving of romance, and a hint of “Friday Night Lights,” especially since its has one of its former cast members, Minka Kelly. She’s one of a lot of pretty people who sit around and brood in the premiere episode. The cast also includes Josh Duhamel, James Brolin and Philip Winchester. Based on a series of romance books by Jodi Thomas, it plays like Hallmark on horseback.
From Turkey comes the new series “Istanbul Encyclopedia” (Netflix, streaming), about two women from different backgrounds, whose lives intersect in the city.
“Law & Order: Organized Crime” (NBC, 10 p.m.) has its fifth season premiere on network TV while most of the other episodes of the Christopher Meloni spinoff will appear on Peacock.
