Gathering a group of contemporary songwriters to churn out the ear candy that is today’s pop hits is apparently a common practice these days. Following their progress for a reality show is new.

“Hitmakers” (Netflix, streaming) follows a gaggle of writers in exotic locales who are charged to come up with chart toppers. As personalities, they can be tedious, but when they put together songs on short notice (with the help of computer backing), it’s pretty impressive. John Legend is their first client, but it’s not like he picks a winner to close the initial episode. So it’s not a reality competition in that sense. But fights are on their way, as well as more divisive participants. So there will be drama amid the tunes.

Rose Ayling-Ellis plays a deaf woman who gets involved in a police investigation in the new series “Code of Silence” (BritBox, streaming), which also stars Fifi Garfield (also deaf in real life) as well as Charlotte Ritchie and Kieron Moore.

From Indonesia comes “A Normal Woman” (Netflix, streaming), a film about a woman bedeviled with a mysterious disease that makes her think she’s going crazy.
