A group of young people from a climbing gym in South Memphis take their skills outside for the first time to try to scale 16,000-foot Mt. Kenya in the new documentary series “Memphis to the Mountain” (Hulu, streaming), which includes appearances from such famous climbers as Alex Honnold. 

Spike Lee’s latest movie is “Highest 2 Lowest” (Apple TV+, streaming), a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s “High and Low,” and based on the 1959 novel “King’s Ransom” by Ed McBain, makes its streaming debut. Denzel Washington leads a cast that includes Jeffrey Wright, ASAP Rocky, Princess Nokia and Ice Spice, in her film debut.

Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith return to judge in the 13th season of “The Great British baking Show” (Netflix, streaming). Episodes will be released weekly. 

Friday night college football looks like it will be a thing this season. Tonight, we have James Madison at Louisville (ESPN2, 7 p.m.), Western Illinois at Northwestern (BTN, 7:30 p.m.), Northern Illinois at Maryland (BTN, 7:30 p.m.) and Eastern Washington at Boise State (Fox Sports 1, 9 p.m.). 

There’s one NFL game on, exclusive to YouTube: Kansas City at Chargers (YouTube, 8 p.m.). 

And broadcast TV has something different — women’s college volleyball with Kentucky at Penn State (Fox, 8 p.m.). 

“Mysteries from Above” (History, 10 p.m.) looks at mysterious pools in Northern Ethiopia. 

Jack McBrayer finds a treetop oasis made from salvaged materials on “Zillow Gone Wild” (HGTV, 9:30 p.m.).

“20/20” (ABC, 9 p.m.) has more on the Idaho college murder case. 

There’s another one of those superfluous episodes of “Big Brother” (CBS, 8 p.m.) with unseen clips, no advancement of the game, and analysis from Taylor Hale and Derrick Levasseur. 

“Cabin Pressure” (Lifetime Movie Network, 8 p.m.) is a made-for-TV thriller about a flight attendant blackmailed into poisoning a passenger lest her family is endangered. 

The Coast Guard gets involved on “Deadliest Catch” (Discovery, 8 p.m.). 

“Bering Sea Gold” (Discovery, 9 p.m.) sees tensions rise and an explosion. 

Cam is still torn between three connections on “Ready to Love” (OWN, 8 p.m.). 

“Ruby & Jodi: A Cult of Sin and Influence” (Investigation Discovery, 8 p.m.) gets another spin on cable, with all four episodes running consecutively. 

Volcanoes are mistaken as UFO landing sites on “Ancient Aliens” (History, 8 p.m.).

“Border Security: Australia’s Front Line” (National Geographic, 9 p.m.) seizes some chocolates. 

Henry continues to look for Julia on “Outlander: Blood of My Blood” (Starz, 8 p.m.). 

“Deb’s House” (WeTV, 9:30 p.m.) sends two singers home. 

The black Mafia Family sets up shop in “Magic City: An American Fantasy” (Starz, 9 p.m.). 

“My Haunted Hometown” (Travel, 9 p.m.) is a new series purporting the town of Strathroy, Ontario to be full of poltergeists. Another terrible destination for the Travel channel. 

Sarah reveals a detail about the case on “Rainmaker” (USA, 10 p.m.). 

Film historian Donald Bogle introduces the first of a two night series on interracial romances on Turner Classic Movies with “Show Boat” (8 p.m.), “Island in the Sun” (10 p.m.), “The World, the Flesh and the Devil”  (12:15 a.m.), “A Patch of Blue” (2 a.m.) and “The Grasshopper” (4 a.m.). The second half is on Sept. 12. 

During the day are gangsters in love, with “A Free Soul” (6:45 a.m.), “Wildcat Bus” (8:30 a.m.), “Society Lawyer” (9:45 a.m.), “Her Kind of Man” (11:15 a.m.), “Smart Girls Don’t Talk” (12:45 p.m.), “Lady Gangster” (2:15 p.m.), “This Woman is Dangerous” (3:30 p.m.), “Three on a Match” (5:15 p.m.) and “Second Chance” (6:30 p.m.).

The U.S. Open (ESPN2, noon; ESPN, 3 and 7 p.m.) has the women’s doubles championship at noon and the mens singles semifinals to follow. 

WNBA action has Los Angeles at Atlanta (Ion, 7:30 p.m.) and New York at Seattle (Ion, 10 p.m.).

Women’s college volleyball has UCLA at TCU (ESPNU, 7 p.m.).
