News of the death of Jimmy Cliff today at 81 brought a couple of his best-known songs to the top of today’s Capital Radio, followed by a nod to Gary “Mani” Mounfield, bassist of the Stone Roses, who died last week at 63. All of it after some 40 minutes of delay and technical difficulty.
Nevertheless, there were birthdays to note, for Clem Burke, Pete Best, Duck Dunn and Terry Lewis, among others.
But the bulk of the show were the remaining 35 songs of the 70 or so titles mentioned in Bob Dylan’s epic “Murder Most Foul,” featured to note the 62nd anniversary of the assassination of JFK. That meant hearing everything from Queen to Monk, Prine to Presley, and Sinatra to the Allman Brothers — all by request from Mr. Zimmerman.
We closed with a half dozen odes to Thanksgiving.
