Chris Harrison claims that Juan Pablo Galavis, the inarticulate Venezuelan soccer player on “The Bachelorette” is the most popular contestant they’ve ever had. What’s that about? Because he was shirtless half the time?
Anyway, he’s back this time as “The Bachelor” (ABC, 8 p.m.) and has so little to say to the 27 women who come and coo over him that last season’s bachelor, Sean Lowe, comes to coach him. For a guy looking for love, Juan Pablo is pretty cavalier about the dissolution of his first marriage (“it didn’t work out”).
After interviewing a long line of appreciative stars over the years, the face of Turner Classic Movies takes the chair on “Private Screenings: Robert Osborne” (TCM, 8 and 11:30 p.m.). Osborne tells his life story to Alec Baldwin, who is delighted to hear it. Before he introduced films, Osborne was an actor and a journalist. We see a sprinkling of his work in old commercials and in the pilot to “The Beverly Hillbillies” as Mr. Drysdale’s right hand man. In between, there is also “The Third Man” (9:30 p.m.).
“Teen Wolf” (MTV, 10 p.m.) returns for its first new episodes since August.
The super-annoying “Hostages” (CBS, 9 p.m.) has a two hour season finale, for a story that should have been kept to under two hours to begin with.
“Rachael vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off” (Food Network, 9 p.m.) begins its third season with eight celebrity contestants arriving for the competition in New York. Among them: Vanilla Ice, former “Bachelor” Jake Pavelka, NHL star Herschel Walker, comedienne Judy Gold, Florence Henderson, Penn Jillette, Chris Kattan and the singer Tiffany.
“Antiques Roadshow” (PBS, 8 p.m., check local listings) starts its 18th season with a trip to Boise.
“Single Ladies” (VH1, 9 p.m.) is also back for a third season, with the adition of Damien Dante Wayans to the cast.
NBC doesn’t care what it’s doing any more. Tonight, it’s all reruns of “The Blacklist” (NBC, 8, 9 and 10 p.m.) to build up interest in the return of a new episode next Monday.
“The Invisible War,” the excellent documentary on sexual assault in the U.S. military, gets a timely replay on “Independent Lens” (PBS, 10 p.m., check local listings).
When you already have a show called “Naked Castaway” (Animal Planet, 8 p.m.), there’s no need to push it further with “Naked Castaway: Full Moon” (Animal Planet, 9 and 10 p.m.). We get it.
Hooray: The talk shows are all back with new shows and “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” (Comedy Central, 11 a.m.) and “The Colbert Report” (Comedy Central, 11:30 p.m.) both return after two week absences.
Monday Night Football is over. How abot the BCS Title Game? Auburn vs. Florida Sate (ESPN, 8:30 p.m.).
Men’s college hoops include Maryland at Pittsburgh (ESPNU, 7 p.m.) and Southern at Texas Southern (ESPNU, 9 p.m.).
