american-grilled-101-ep-g_476x268Just in time for the holiday weekend is a new food competition series called “American Grilled” (Travel Channel, 9 p.m.), in which backyard BBQ cooks trot out their best stuff in hopes to take the $10,000 prize.

First up are four big guys from Ashville, N.C., Dillon, Will, Tiny and Jeff, who, in addition to cuts of meats, have to use odd local ingredients. David Gaus, owner of the Bayou Bakery, Coffee Bar & Eatery in Arlington is host. Future episodes are set in Charlottesville and Annopolis.

The fifth season start of “Drugs Inc.” (National Geographic, 9 p.m.) looks at the underground drug world of Salt Lake City, even in the Mormom community. An LDS elder in a face of bandana and fedora talks about his trade as heroin dealer, who hides his stash in a hollowed-out Book of Mormon. He uses profits for charity, he claims.

The Top 20 finally perform on a two hour “So You Think You Can Dance” (Fox, 8 p.m.). The first live show also represents the show’s 200th episode.

“Dark Temptations” (Investigation Discovery, 10 p.m.) is just the newest title in their many, many series of lurid crime re-enactments.

The meter’s still on for the odd cop show “Taxi Brooklyn” (NBC, 10 p.m.).

Newton revolves in his grave as “Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman” (Science, 10 p.m.) tries to determine whether gravity is just an illusion.

Chevy Chase plays the owner of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, on a date with Valerie Bertinelli on “Hot in Cleveland” (TV Land, 10 p.m.). Rob Schneider guest stars on a second episode .

Donny and PaoPao are up for eviction on “Big Brother” (CBS, 8 p.m.) but there’s still the whole Power of Veto thing to be played.

Monday’s season premiere of “Under the Dome” (CBS, 9 p.m.) gets a replay.

A sixth season starts for “Nick Cannon Presents: Wild ‘N Out” (MTV2, 11 p.m.) for a sixth season and Michael Strahan turns up as a guest. This is after he’s on a two hour rerun of “America’s Got Talent” (NBC, 8 p.m.).

“The Soup” (E!, 10 p.m.) continues its live shows.

For those who missed it, last week’s “Kate Plus 8” (TLC, 8 p.m.) specials about the 10th birthday is repeated in full.

Let’s talk talking animals. Well before “Mister Ed” there was “Francis” (TCM, 8 p.m.) the talking mule. Then there was a whole bunch of talking animals in “Doctor Dolittle” (TCM, 9:45 p.m.) — the Rex Harrison version not the Eddie Murphy remake. Mike Nichols’ 1973 thriller “The Day of the Dolphin” (TCM, 12:30 a.m.) is technically about talking animals, but not in the same spirit as the other films. In Louis Malle’s “Black Moon” (TCM, 2:30 a.m.) a young woman living in a fantasy world encounters a talking unicorn. And in Roger Corman’s version of “The Raven” (TCM, 4:30 a.m.) with Vincent Price, Peter Lorre and Boris Karloff, of course, the bird cries “Never more.”

Unrelated to all this, Eddie Murphy is in “Doctor Doolittle 2” (Encore, 8 p.m.).

I don’t remember “Jaws” (AMC, 7:45 p.m.) as being more than three hours long.

Sorry, the World Cup semi-finals don’t start up until Friday. But an interview with Lionel Messi, record-breaking scorer for Spain’s Barcelona Soccer Club is replayed on “60 Minutes Sports” (Showtime, 9 p.m.). Plus there are features on kayaker Shannon Christy and sowboarder Jeremy Jones.

Missed Sunday’s finales? Here they are again, of “Penny Dreadful” (Showtime, 8 p.m.), “Californication” (Showtime, 10 p.m.) and “Nurse Jackie” (Showtime, 10:30 p.m.).

Ellen DeGeneres pops up on “Cousins Undercover” (HGTV, 8 p.m.).
