It’s a big night for classic animation from the earliest days, starting with a compilation of “The Cartoons of Winsor McCay” (8 p.m.), from 1911’s “Little Nemo” to the century-old “Gertie the Dinosaur.” It’s followed by “The 100th Anniversary of Bray Studios” (TCM, 9:45 p.m.) which spread the work of artists from Paul Terry to Max Fleisher. Then a third collection of shorts, “Animation from the Van Buren Studios” (TCM, 11 p.m.) which began as “Aesop’s Fables Studio” and produced the first animated version of “The Wizard of Oz” in 1933.
Those retrospectives are followed by three non-Disney animated features, “The Adventures of Prince Achmed” (TCM, midnight) a silent silhouette film from 1927 thought to be one of the first animated features from Lotte Reiniger. Then comes the Fleischer brothers’ 1939 “Gulliver’s Travels” (TCM, 1:30 a.m.), Akira Daikubara’s 1960 “Magic Boy” (TCM, 3 a.m.) and Chuck Jones’ 1969 “The Phantom Tollbooth” (TCM, 4:30 a.m.).
Two strong documentaries are on tonight: Ben Steele’s “Hunted: The War Against Gays in Russia” (HBO, 9 p.m.), looks at Putin’s campaign against gay people in Russia, which has opened the door to greater violence. Joshua Oppenheimer’s “The Act of Killing,” on “POV” (PBS, 10 p.m., check local listings) features a couple of Indonesian death squad members re-enacting their part in the 1965 military takeover of their country.
UFC champion Randy Couture was cut from “Dancing with the Stars” (ABC, 8 p.m.) last week, tonight the remaining 10 dance to the theme of “My Most Memorable Year.”
Blind auditions continue, maybe forever, on “The Voice” (NBC, 8 p.m.).
The second season begins for “The Originals” (The CW, 9 p.m.), and a review of the first nine seasons of “Supernatural” (The CW, 9 p.m.) precedes its return Tuesday.
A powerful coin is stolen on “Sleepy Hollow” (Fox, 9 p.m.).
Catwoman comes to the aid on “Gotham” (Fox, 8 p.m.), where the young Penguin has recently stolen the show.
Having been sentenced for fraud, the couple from “Real Housewives of New Jersey” (Bravo, 9 p.m.) talks on a special prime time “Watch What Happens Live: One-on-Ones with Teresa and Joe” (Bravo, 9 p.m.).
Monday Night Football has Seattle at Washington (ESPN, 8:30 p.m.).
And in post season play, it’s Washington at San Francisco (MLB, 5 p.m.) and Dodgers at St. Louis (Fox Sports 1, 9 p.m.).
