New for kids this morning is a new public television educational show with bit of DNA from the old “Electric Company,” “Odd Squad” (PBS, check local listings) featuring a talented live action cast of kids and some amusing writing on the way to loads of lesson in math and such.
Because it seems like there should be a reason turkeys should be an enemy deserving of this weekend’s mass slaughter, here’s another one of those bogus shows from one of the Discovery channels: “When Turkeys Attack” (Destination America, 10 p.m.). It may seem just the opposite of the story of the guy who raised a wild turkey being rerun tonight on “Nature” (PBS, 8 p.m., check local listings).
Turkeys are everywhere, though, in a replay of “Charlie Brown Christmas” (ABC, 8 p.m.) and on the compilation of “Saturday Night Live Thanksgiving” (NBC, 9 p.m.), where Paul Simon again dons the costume.
“When Turkeys Attack” is part of an evening that also includes “Pig Bomb” (Destination America, 8 p.m.) and “The Hunt for Hogzilla” (Destination America, 9 p.m.). Other critters on the loose today include “Revenge of the Whale” (Animal Planet, 9 p.m.) a recreation of the 1820 whaleship the Essex, which was the inspiration later for Herman Melville’s “Moby Dick.” Martin Sheen heads a cast that also includes Jonas Armstrong and Adam Rayner.
I’m not sure they should show their hand for the big live musical production coming next week. But here’s a one hour promo for it, “The Making of Peter Pan” (NBC, 8 p.m.) with Allison Williams.
It’s a night for big films to lure you in and watch holiday commercials. Few are bigger than “Gone with the Wind” (AMC, 8 p.m.) marking its 75th anniversary. Also on tonight: “Cars 2” (ABC Family, 8:30 p.m.), “The Amazing Spider-Man” (FX, 8 p.m.), “Puss in Boots” (FXX, 7 and 9 p.m.) double play.
It is also the day when “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” (The CW, 8 p.m.) takes place, though it’s certainly odd to have a 27 year old movie on in prime time.
On Turner Classic Movies, it’s all about art thefts with “Arsene Lupin” (8 p.m.), “Gambit” (9:30 p.m.), “The Fake” (11:30 p.m.), “The Happy Thieves” (1 a.m.), “The Light Touch” (2:45 a.m.) and “Crack-Up” (4:30 a.m.).
Twins Jonathan and Drew Scott go to their family house in Vegas to overhaul it on a new series “The Property Brothers at Home” (HBTV, 9 p.m.).
A third season of “Celebrity Motor Homes” (GAC, 8 p.m.) looks into the trailers of the Bacon Brothers, singer Laura bell Bundy and Travis Barker of Blink-182.
It’s fashion week on “The Fashion Fund” (Ovation, 10 p.m.).
A blind taste test kicks off an episode of “Hell’s Kitchen” (ESPN, 8 p.m.).
College hoops today include North Carolina vs. Butler (ESPN2, noon), Oklahoma vs. UCLA (ESPN2, 2:30 p.m.), Missouri vs. Chaminade (ESPNU, 2:30 p.m.), Furman at Duke (ESPNU, 5 p.m.), Purdue vs. BYU (ESPN2, 5 p.m.), St. John’s vs. Minnesota (ESPNU, 7 p.m.), Kansas State vs. Pittsburgh (ESPN2, 7:30 p.m.), Lehigh at DePaul (Fox Sports 1, 8 p.m.), Gonzaga vs. Georgia (ESPN2, 9:30 p.m.), Georgetown vs. Florida (AXS.tv, 9:30 p.m.), Arizona vs. San Diego State (ESPN, 10 p.m.) and Tulsa vs. Oklahoma St. (ESPN2, 11:30 p.m.).
Pro basketball includes New York at Dallas (ESPN, 7:30 p.m.) and Memphis at Lakers (NBA, 10:30 p.m.). NHL action has Philadelphia at Detroit (NBC Sports Network, 7:30 p.m.).
