Whatever advances have been made in the LGBT world, it all seems to crash down once they become elderly. Then, they fear showing their identity for fear of reprisals or ridicule in assisted living or nursing care. Many age alone, since they have no children and remain estranged from family.
These underreported issues are at the heart of Stu Maddow’s film “Gen Silent” (Logo, 9 p.m.), an unexpectedly affecting film about a handful of LGBT seniors in Boston, making its TV debut tonight.
Also in documentaries, “Independent Lens” (PBS, 10 p.m., check local listings) returns for its 17th season with a documentary by Debra Granik about a man she met (and cast) when she was making the feature “Winter’s Bone.” A Vietnam Veteran named Ron Hall, better known as the title of the film “Stray Dog,” is a motorcyclist who is trying to atone for his war days by being a better person, specifically helping his stepsons from south of the border adjust to life in the United States.
A violent showdown on “Fargo” (FX, 10 p.m.) radically alters the cast going forward. And Bruce Campbell, star of “Ash vs. Evil Dead” this fall, travels the state as Ronald Reagan, giving speeches.
Monday Night Football has Chicago at San Diego (ESPN, 8:15 p.m.).
Britney Spears guest stars on a new “Jane the Virgin” (The CW, 9 p.m.).
