thereturn-1500x844The 29th season of “POV” (PBS, 10 p.m.) starts with an in-depth look at the result of prison reform, specifically the “three strikes” law adopted in California more than 20 years ago that packed the prisons with crimes sometimes as small as selling small amounts of Prop 36, which reformed the law 2012 that made thousands of inmates who were resigned to life sentences eligible for release.

“The Return,” a film by Kelly Duane de la Vega and Katie Galloway that won the audience award at the Tribeca Film Festival, looks at two such cases. One was a life sentence for a purse snatching. The problem is that inmates who have resigned themselves to life sentences and cut themselves off from families, are unprepared for the sudden re-entry.

Speaking of returns, “The Bachelorette” (ABC, 9 p.m.) is back again, this time with runner up JoJo Fletcher doing the picking. She’s the one who seemed too wild to make a sensible choice for bland Ben Higgins on last season’s “Bachelor,” Now there’s two dozen guys competing for her heart if not her hand.

The guys are always worse than the women; they’re far more into it for the competition than the woman in question and the show goes out of its way to pick suitable villains (if not making villains out of ordinary people through editing). The sooner this is over the sooner we get to “Bachelor in Paradise.”

Also back: “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” (The CW, 9 and 9:30 p.m.) with guest appearances from Alfonso Ribeiro and Keegan Michael-Key.

The final three on “Dancing with the Stars” (ABC, 8 p.m.) — Nyle DiMarco, Paige VanZant and Ginger Zee, all three strictly non-stars — dance their last on the first half of this week’s finale.

It’s down to the final four on “The Voice” (NBC, 8 p.m.) as well: Laith Al-Saadi, Hannah Hutson, Alisan Porter and Adam Wakefield.

A jail break threatens “Gotham” (Fox, 8 p.m.) for its second season finale. Tonight is also the finale for “The Odd Couple” (CBS, 9 and 9:30 p.m.), in two episodes, and “Blindspot” (NBC, 10 p.m.), with one.

On “The Detour” (TBS, 9 p.m.), the family learns Nate has been lying to them.

It’s the time of year when game shows suddenly appear on primetime network TV (there will be more later this week). So a three night run of “The Price is Right Primetime Special” (CBS, 8 p.m.) is flavored by different casts of former reality competitions — all from CBS. It begins tonight with those who played “Survivor,” and if it’s anything like last week’s finale of “Survivor,” maybe Sia will show up and distribute her own money.

Talk about “Survivor” — Hey, what if you were a wildebeest and had to make an annual migration in Africa? That’s what they make 20 volunteers do on the new “Mygrations” (National Geographic Channel, 9 p.m.), without a map or compass, but with a little food, crossing from Tanzania to Kenya using the same migration path, but encountering all sorts of predators from Lions and leopards to crocodiles and hyena.

Forget how Madonna did singing Prince; Both “Fashion Police” (E!, 8 p.m.) and  the “Wendy Williams Style Squad” (BET, 10 p.m.), look at what people wore to the Billboard Music Awards Sunday.

Hope nobody gets burned on the new “Kids BBQ Championship” (Food Network, 8 p.m.) that starts tonight.

I’m guessing “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee” (TBS, 10:30 p.m.) has a withering look at vaping.

Mary must leave France quickly on “Reign” (The CW, 8 p.m.).

A British counterfeiting operation is discovered on “Turn: Washington’s Spies” (AMC, 10 p.m.).

Cole’s partnership with Ramse is tested on “12 Monkeys” (Syfy, 9 p.m.).

Tiffany throws a charity concert on “The Real Housewives of Dallas” (Bravo, 10 p.m.).

“Person of Interest” (CBS, 10 p.m.) has a wedding show.

“The Hunters” (Syfy, 10 p.m.) try to reprogram Regan.

Turner Classic Movies marks the 75th anniversary of the Peabody Awards by showing four Peabody- winning films, three of them originally made for TV, “Green Eyes” (8 p.m.), “Hoop Dreams” (10 p.m.), “Promise” (1 a.m.) and “George Wallace” (3 a.m.).

It’s Cleveland at Toronto (ESPN, 8:30 p.m.) in the NBA playoffs.

In the Stanley Cup playoffs, it’s San Jose at St. Louis (NBC Sports, 8 p.m.).

Baseball includes Angels at Texas (Fox Sports 1, 8 p.m.).
