The new six-part “Cleverman” (Sundance, 10 p.m.) is an American-Australian-New Zealand production about asylum seekers, border protection and racism, focusing on indigenous people known as the Hairypeople, whose leader, as in the Aboriginal culture, is the Cleverman, who has many powers.
The sci-fi series, by an Aboriginal writer Ryan Griffen, includes in the cast Iain Glen, who plays the Daenerys-smitten Jorah Mormont on “Game of Thrones” and Frances O’Connor (“A.I.,” “Mr. Selfridge).
“Questions for President Obama: A PBS NewsHour Special” (PBS, 8 p.m., check local listings) has the President answering questions from Gwen Ifill in Elkhart, Ind., on a variety of issues and then transitioning into a town hall.
A half dozen summer series start new seasons, from the low budget physical challenge of “American Ninja Warrior” (NBC, 8 p.m.) and cooking of “MasterChef” (Fox, 8 p.m.) to the comedies “Young & Hungry” (Freeform, 8 p.m.) and “Baby Daddy” (Freeform, 8:30 p.m.), the medical drama “The Night Shift” (NBC, 10 p.m.), which includes Jennifer Beals in a recurring role, and the mixed martial arts drama “Kingdom” (DirecTV, 9 p.m.).
“Schitt’s Creek” (Pop, 8 p.m.) has its season finale, as does “Bering Sea Gold” (Discovery, 9 p.m.), on which the final hauls are tallied.
