greenleafFor all her high mindedness, the ratings hero on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network have been the prime time soap operas from Tyler Perry. So it may not be a surprise that her own dramatic series follows the same soapy path.

“Greenleaf” (OWN, 10 p.m.) is about the doings of the family heading a big, wealthy Memphis megachurch. Keith David is the patriarch, dodging tax inquiries and police scandals; Lynn Whitfield is his seeming wife, and Merle Dandridge plays the returning prodigal daughter, a former preacher who has returned home to the fold to find a number of peccadilloes within, from sexual abuse to infidelities to the usual greed. Winfrey herself appears fleetingly as an estranged aunt and barkeep. The whole thing is not very good.
