sharps-1Artemis Joukowsky got some help from Ken Burns to finish a documentary about an American couple’s mission to help refugees escape the Nazis in Europe, “Defying the Nazis: The Sharps’ War” (PBS, 9 p.m., check local listings). Could it be more timely?

“Scream Queens” (Fox, 9 p.m.) doesn’t get a whole new cast and story for its new season as Ryan Murphy does for his “American Horror Story.” But Jamie Lee Curits’ Dean Munsch has bought a teaching hospital and all of the former Kappa house members, Emma Roberts, Abigail Breslin and Billy Lourd have been hired, alongside new cast members that include John Stamos (his own Fox sitcom having been axed).

Things are different, too, on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (Fox, 8 p.m.), where Andy Samberg and Andre Braugher’s characters have been relocated to Florida under the witness protection program. Their new neighbors include Rhea Perlman and Maya Rudolph.

For the 14th season premiere of one of TV’s most popular shows, “NCIS” (CBS, 8 .m.), Wilmer Valderrama and Jennifer Esposito joins the cast, in part to replace Michael Weatherly, who appears immediately after in his own new show, about the early days of Dr. Phil, “Bull” (CBS, 9 p.m.). Back for its third season is “NCIS: New Orleans” (CBS, 10 p.m.) which has Vanessa Ferlito joining the cast.

Back for its fourth season is “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” (ABC, 10 p.m.) in which Jason O’Mara joins as a new director and Robbie Reyes as Ghost Rider.

“New Girl” (Fox, 8:30 p.m.), starting its sixth season, may have lasted longer than a group of roommates would have lasted in a loft, especially when just about all of them are coupled up and one is even married (but not Jess).

He was first to leave the Republican presidential primaries and it looks like Rick Perry will be the first to be voted off on “Dancing with the Stars” (ABC, 8 p.m.) on its first elimination episode.

Speaking of politicians, Howard Dean and Pat Buchanan recall their campaigns that briefly shook up their respective party’s primaries on “The Contenders: 16 for 16″ (PBS, 8 p.m., check local listings).

Not sure why former Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek is guest judge on “Chopped Junior” (Food, 8 p.m.).

What makes a genius? They try to figure it out on “Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman” (Science, 10 p.m.).

People are raving about the third season of “Halt and Catch Fire” (AMC, 10 p.m.). Tonight, somebody wants to buy Donna and Cameron’s online gaming site.

Bloggers can be annoyances, as Paper Boi finds out on “Atlanta” (FX, 10 p.m.).

Whoopi Goldberg produced the new series “Strut” (Oxygen, 9 p.m.), which follows life at a transgender modeling agency.

The slapstick showcase on Turner Classic Movies moves into the 1950s with Jacques Tati’s classic “Mon Oncle” (8 p.m.), Lucy and Desi in “The Long, Long Trailer” (10 p.m.), Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis in “Scared Stiff” (11:45 p.m.), the Three Stooges’ “Have Rocket, Will Travel” (1:45 a.m.), Jack Carson as “The Good Humor Man” (3:15 a.m.) and the example of the British series “Carry On Teacher” (4:45 a.m.).

Baseball includes Yankees at Tampa Bay (MLB, 7 p.m.) and San Francisco at Dodgers (ESPN2, 10 p.m.).

In minor league ball, they’re already having the class AA championship game with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre vs. El Paso (NBC Sports, 8 pm.).

In the World Cup of Hockey, it’s Finland vs. Sweden (ESPN, 3 p.m.) and Canada vs. United States (ESPN, 8 p.m.).
