In a post-Patty Duke age when portraying twins both a showy way to act and edit, and possibly a cost-cutting way to cast, where James Franco plays two roles on “Deuce,” Ewan McGregor won a Golden Globe for his roles on “Fargo,” the most complicated scenes of twins may come on the comedy “Baskets” (FX, 10 p.m.), which returns for its third season tonight.
It seems like Zach Galifianakis and director Jonathan Krisel seems to devise complicated fight sequences between Chip and Dale Baskets just to show what advances have been made in the illusion business. But that’s all secondary to the first-rate slapstick comedy it delivers between the deadpan telling of the Baskets family, which has purchased the rodeo where Chip once worked. It’s a great way to get more scenes from Louie Anderson’s portrayal as their mom.
Ann Curry returns to TV, triumphant in her way, to host a heart-tugging six-episode public TV series, “We’ll Meet Again” (PBS, 8 p.m., check local listings) about people reuniting for the first time since some significant historical moment. In tonight’s case that’s World War II.
Anna Paquin stars as a detective in the new cable thriller, “Bellevue” (WGN, 10 p.m.) investigating a grisly crime tied to a murder from decades earlier.
“The Quad” (BET, 10 p.m) returns for its second season, this one focusing on financial problems of the fictional Historic Black College. Issues from last season’s sexual assault linger, however.
You might think Tiffany Haddish began her “Drunk History” (Comedy Central, 10 p.m) while announcing Oscar nominees early this morning.
