One goofball deserves another, or something, as the comedian and actor Tom Arnold becomes obsessed with Donald Trump and specifically, the miles of outtakes from “The Apprentice” that have never been released (that supposedly led to a minor brawl between Arnold and “Apprentice” producer Mark Burnett at an Emmy party Sunday).
But he’s looking for more than that, according to “The Hunt for the Trump Tapes with Tom Arnold” (Viceland, 10:30 p.m.) premiering tonight, a surprisingly entertaining docs-series about his search, which actually does turn up some stuff — including transcripts from old Trump appearances on Howard Stern. Here’s a story I did about the show earlier this summer.
“America’s Got Talent” (NBC, 8 p.m.) begins the first of its two-night finale with the last performances from the Top 10.
Is there a winner on “Castaways” (ABC, 10 p.m.)? Anyway the first season finale is tonight.
There’s a new standup special out in “D.L. Hughley: Contrarian” (Netflix, streaming).
Immediately after the Emmys is usually when the new fall shows begin, but the only one returning tonight is “Tosh.0” (Comedy Central, 10 p.m.).
“The Paley Center Salutes ‘This is Us’” (NBC, 10 p.m.), with clips, interviews and glimpses of season three serves a prelude to next week’s premiere.
I’m still wondering whether Facebook Watch is an actual TV thing, but it has a new show, “Sorry for Your Loss” (Facebook Watch, streaming) that stars Elizabeth Olsen as a young widow.
The new “Sweet Home Sextuplets” (TLC, 10 p.m.) follows the life of a family who added six babies to their family late last year, for a total of nine.
Martha Stewart shows up on “Chopped” (Food, 9 p.m.).
Alliances are tested on “Mayans M.C.” (FX, 10 p.m.).
DJs compete on “Beat Shazam” (Fox, 8 p.m.).
Potty training is tackled on the first of two episodes of “Outdaughtered” (TLC, 8 and 9 p.m.).
“The Great American Read” (PBS, 8 p.m., check local listings) examines nominated books that examine people’s place in the world.
“Love Connection” (Fox, 9 p.m.) has a season two finale.
Penelope prepares for her sacrifice on “The Purge” (USA, 10 p.m.).
There’s a new threat on the island on “Wrecked” (TBS, 10 p.m.).
Turner Classic Movies continues its series on the Black Experience on Film with mostly musicals: “Carmen Jones” (8 p.m.), “Cabin in the Sky” (10 p.m.), “New Orleans” (midnight), “Hallelujah” (2 a.m.) and “Street Scene” (4 a.m.).
Earlier, the cinematography of Nicholas Musuraca will be featured in the films “Stranger on the Floor” (6:15 a.m.), “The Gay Falcon” (7:30 a.m.), “Cat People” (8:45 a.m.), “The Seventh Victim” (10 a.m.), “Out of the Past” (11:15 a.m.), “Blood on the Moon” (1 p.m.), “I Remember Mama” (2:30 p.m.), “Born to Be Bad” (4:45 p.m.) and “Split Second” (6:30 p.m.).
Baseball includes Boston at Yankees (MLB, 1 p.m.), St. Louis at Atlanta (ESPN, 7:30 p.m.) and Colorado at Dodgers (MLB, 10 p.m.). And it’s Durham vs. Memphis (NBC Sports, 7 p.m.) in the Class AAA championship game.
Hockey preseason is here with games that include Ottawa vs. Toronto (NHL, 7:30 p.m.).
