As if there weren’t enough to watch (or shows to keep track of wanting to eventually watch), here’s a whole new streaming service from the folks who gave you the iPhone. Apple TV + may not be as innovative or sleek as some of its hardware, or so different in its presentation to set it apart from its predecessors, but there may be a number of shows to check out to warrant its $4.99 a month fee (or at least its free trial).
The show getting the most attention is “The Morning Show” (Apple TV +, streaming) about the behind the scenes drama of a fictional TV show, mostly for its casting with Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon (pictured above) as well as Steve Carell.
The drama “For All Mankind” (Apple TV +, streaming) imagines a world where Russians won the space race, and Americans try harder to catch up in the late 1960s, adding women to their team. With Joel Kinnaman, Shantel VanSanten, Sarah Jones, Michael Dorman and Sonja Walger. It’s from Ronald D. Moore of “Battlestar Galactica” and “Outlander” fame.
Sounds like you can close your eyes to Jason Momoa and Alfre Woodard star in “See” (Apple TV +, streaming), a fantasy about a future world where nobody can see.
But the most outrageous show on its roster may be “Dickinson” (Apple TV +, streaming), in which the poet Emily Dickinson is reimagined as a kind of 19th century hipster who listens to hip-hop. Say what? Hailee Seinfeld stars.
Oprah Winfrey is on Apple TV + as well with a series version of “Oprah’s Book Club” (Apple TV +, streaming), which begins with a discussion with author Ta-Nehisi Coates about her novel “The Water Dancer.”
And there’s a nature documentary too, “The Elephant Queen” (Apple TV +, streaming) that follows the life of a pachyderm seeking water sources.
