Leave the rancor of the current political season for the one created at the 2018 Texas high school confab “Boys State” (Apple TV+, streaming), where the conservative-leaning delegates are surprisingly cynical in their mock runs for governor, but the filmmakers wisely choose to follow one humble kid who quietly forges a path forward and almost instills hope in the process. It’s an engrossing and thought-provoking documentary.

Now Mark Burnett has revived it in the renamed “World’s Toughest Race: Eco-Challenge Fiji” (Amazon Prime, streaming). Bear Grylls hosts and there are 66 teams competing, but years of producing such shows makes it easy to hone in on a handful of interesting competitors to begin with.
