Any look into the weird NXIVM world would be interesting, but the nine-part “The Vow” (HBO, 10 pm.) benefits from a wealth of footage from almost every stage of the story, making it all the more compelling. That’s because an early convert was filmmaker Mark Vincente, who was part of a team that made the sleeper documentary “What the Bleep Do We Know?” Vincente took his footage with him when he left the self-help group, which taped a lot of its own sessions anyway.
Through keen editing the documentary that also follows an early follower Sarah Edmondson gets incrementally creepier as it continues, swallowing up young actresses as it does so.
