Each of the bigger streaming services are competing by premiering new teen today.
The teen movie equivalent of “The Purge” comes in the new “The Binge” (Hulu, streaming), which isn’t about watching TV but about the teens preparing for the one day of the year when people can drink and use drugs — a day for whom 18 year olds have been waiting all their lives. It stars Skyler Gisondo of “The Righteous Gemstones,” with Vince Vaughn as school principal, and Eduardo Franco of “Booksmart” as an oddball student.
Teen movies flourish on the service, with “All Together Now” (Netflix, streaming) has Auli’i Carvalho (the voice of Disney’s “Moana”) as a homeless teen with musical talent who lives on a bus. Based on “Silver Linings Playbook” author Matthew Quick’s novel “Sorta Like a Rockstar,” it also stars Justina Machado, Carol Burnett and Fred Armisen.
Four city boys go on a wilderness trip in the Scottish Highlands that goes all wrong in the raucous teen comedy “Get Duked!” (Amazon Prime, streaming).
“Phineas and Ferb: the Movie — Candace Against the Universe” (Disney+, streaming) is a full length feature from the popular cartoon, about Candace’s abduction by aliens.
