Science may not be popular in the White House, but it’s the basis of the two new network shows that premiere tonight.

“Swamp Thing” (CW, 8 p.m.) crawls up from the soon to depart DC Universe streaming service, where it was canceled it after one season. It may last longer on broadcast TV, which replays that initial season of creepiness at the bayou.

There’s a timeliness to the proceedings with Crystal Reed playing a CDC epidemic investigator back in her hometown to check odd goings-on. The cast includes Virginia Madsen, Jennifer Beals and Ian Ziering. And there’s a bit of a Beauty and the Beast vibe with the plant-based title character after a while.

John Slattery stars in the new “Next” (Fox, 9 p.m.) as a tech genius who suddenly sees that artificial intelligence has gone too far in controlling its users. The series was to have premiered last spring, but was held back and saved for fall, when the network guessed correctly that they’d need some scripted fare when the pandemic shut down production of nearly everything. So far it seems a little predictable.

How else to populate the fall season? Throw in a true crime series, like “The FBI Declassified” (CBS, 10 p.m.).

Sebastian Yatra hosts the 33rd Hispanic Heritage Awards (PBS, 8 p.m., check local listings) where  Bad Bunny, Linda Ronstadt, Selena Gomez, Jessica Alba and American Farmworkers will receive special awards. Performers include Calma Carmona, Flor de Toloache, Joy Huerta, Lupita Infante, La Marisoul and The Mavericks.
