Devils dominated this year’s Halloween edition of Capital Radio, mostly because the show fell on the traditional Devil’s Night. And there are a lot of songs about beelzebub, it turns out. Our nearly three dozen selections included the obvious, from the Stones and the Dead, to the less expected Cat Power, Stereophonic and Max Romeo, with a solid sampling of hellhounds from Robert Johnson, Skip James and Otis Spann.

There were also seven Halloween songs at the beginning and end of the show, and time for birthday salutes to Grace Slick, who turns 84 today — as does Motown’s Eddie Holland. The last surviving Temptation, Otis Williams, turns 82; Ken Stringfellow of The Posies is 55; Timothy B. Schmidt is 76. And there were a couple of songs from New Orleans mainstay Tommy Ridgely, born this day in 1925.
