Pete Townshend turned 80, Grace Jones is 77 and Paul Brady, 78. All were honored on Capital radio as well as other music figures born this day, from Joey Ramone to songwriter Micky Newbury and bassist Herbie Flowers.

We paid tribute to two artists who died Friday, Broadway composer Charles Strouse, who was 96, and reggae roots rocker Junior Byles, who was 77.

And there were 10 of the 13  recordings inducted Friday into the Grammy Hall of Fame, from Fela Kuti to Eddie Floyd, Santana, Luther Vandross, Emmylou Harris, Clara Ward and Big Star, as well as Linda Martell, who re-emerged on Beyonce’s album last year, and blues singer Geeshie Wiley.

Closed with some Kinks in memory of a friend
