The latest spinoff of Michael Connelly’s literary series “Bosch” is “Ballard” (Prime Video, streaming), which concentrates on LAPD detective Renee Ballard, played by Maggie Q, who investigates cold cases with advice from Titus Welliver’s retired detective Harry Bosch.
A boy band veteran himself, AJ McLean of the Backstreet Boys (now 47), hosts the new “Building the Band” (Netflix, streaming), a pop singing competition with a “Love is Blind” vibe: Fifty different singers audition in their own pods — others who want to join their group push a button. Forming before they see each other, the resulting six groups then have to work out chemistry, looks and choreography, as one unit (of course not really a “band” at all in terms of playing instruments) eventually wins.
It was taped some time ago — with Nicole Scherzinger before she won her Tony as judge, alongside Kelly rowland and former One Direction member Liam Payne in his final role before he fell off of a third floor balcony in Buenos Aires and died last October at age 31.
One of TV’s best comedies is also one of its longest-lasting: It’s season 17 for “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” (FXX, 9 p.m.). The first of two episodes tonight is an “Abbott Elementary” crossover; the second has Danny DeVito’s Frank in a coma.
“Human Footprint” (PBS, 9 p.m., check local listings) examines how fashion affects the planet.
