“Friendship” (HBO, 8 p.m.), the cringe comedy with Paul Rudd and Tim Robinson that came out in May, makes its premium cable debut. It’s the first film from director Andrew deYoung.

College football dominates prime time network TV with Boston College at Michigan State (NBC, 7:30 p.m.) and Michigan at Oklahoma (ABC, 7:30 p.m.). The many other games are listed below. 

There’s an awful lot of news to catch up on as a third season starts for the topical comedy panel show “Have I Got News for You” (CNN, 9 p.m.) with Amber Ruffin, Michael Ian Black and host Roy Wood Jr. hosting Dave Foley and Rep. Jasmine Crockett. 

Carmelo Anthony, Sue Bird, Billy Donovan, Sylvia Fowles, Dwight Howard, Maya Moore, Micky Arison, Danny Crawford and the 2008 Olympic men’s basketball team will be inducted in the annual Naismith Hall of Fame enshrinement (NBA, 7 p.m.) in Springfield, Mass.

Wolf sightings rattle “Crossroad Springs” (Great American Family, 8 p.m.). 

“Trafficked with Mariana Van Zeller” (National Geographic, 9 p.m.) looks at the worldwide surge in anti-LGBTQ+ violence. 

The inaugural season of “Naming the Dead” (National Geographic, 10 p.m.) ads with a 1996 case of a man burned alive. 

A girl who was abducted as a child suddenly returns home as an adult but something is off in the made-for-TV thriller “Girl Who Vanished” (Lifetime, 8 p.m.). 

“The Groomsmen First Look” (Hallmark, 8 p.m.) is a made-for-TV romance about a pediatrician and an overseas doctor who meet at a Philadelphia wedding. 

Nell doesn’t want Destiny to date her godson on “Love and Marriage: Huntsville” (OWN, 8 p.m.).

On “Heart & Hustle: Houston” (OWN, 9 p.m.), Chloe attempts to mend fences. 

Another bad trip: “Destinations of the Damned with Zak Bagans” (Travel, 10 p.m.). 

On the eve of its annual MTV Video Music Awards, the network presents “Top Gun: Maverick” (MTV, 8 p.m.). 

Svengoolie plays the 1956 “The Creature Walks Among Us” (MeTV, 8 p.m.).

A couple of Western parodies play tonight on Turner Classic Movies, with “Blazing Saddles” (8 p.m.) and “The Paleface” (10 p.m.). The 12 o’clock noir is “He Ran All the Way” (midnight). It’s followed by a pair of suspense flicks: “Wait Until Dark” (1:45 a.m.) and “Klute” (3:45 a.m.). The midday musical is “Two Girls on Broadway” (noon), followed by the epic “Lawrence of Arabia” (1:30 p.m.). 

Baseball includes Toronto at Yankees (MLB, 1 p.m.), Philadelphia at Miami (MLB, 4 p.m.), Houston at Texas (Fox, 7:15 p.m.) and Athletics at Angels (MLB, 10 p.m.). 

College football begins at noon with San Jose State at Texas (ABC), Iowa at Iowa State (Fox), Baylor at SMU (CW), Illinois at Duke (ESPN), Virginia at North Carolina State (ESPN2). Kent State at Texas Tech (TNT), Central Michigan at Pittsburgh (ESPNU), Kennesaw State at Indiana (Fox Sports 1) and Liberty at Jacksonville State (CBS Sports).

Games at 3:30 p.m. include Mississippi at Kentucky (ABC), Oklahoma State at Oregon (CBS), Delaware at Colorado (Fox), Fresno State at Oregon State (CW), Alabama Birmingham at Navy (CBS Sports) and Kansas at Missouri (ESPN2).

Motor sports include the first round of the Super Motocross playoffs (NBC 3 p.m.) and the Nu Way 200 (CW, 7:30 p.m.).

Soccer includes Serbia at Latvia (Fox Sports 2, 9 a.m.), Andorra at England (Fox Sports 2, noon), Hungary at Ireland (Fox Sports 2, 2:45 p.m.), and South Korea at United States (TNT, Universe, 5 p.m.) in an international friendly. 

It’s Aryna Sabalenka and Amanda Anisimova in the women’s singles final at the U.S. Open (ESPN, 4 p.m.). 

 Chris Stapleton plays a replay of “Austin City Limits” (PBS, 11 p.m., check local listings) from February.

“Saturday Night Live” (NBC, 11:30 p.m.) is a replay of the Walton Goggins-hosted show from May with Arcade Fire.
