Three seasons of Tim Robinson’s crazy Netflix sketch show “I Think You Should Leave” were so packed with revved-up, crazy ideas, there’s an effort now to try to smooth them out and shape them into more conventional entertainment sizes. After the feature “Friendship” with Paul Rudd, Robinson becomes a similarly nerdy suburban family man in his new series “The Chair Company” (HBO, 10 p.m.).

He’s got a big presentation to make about a mall under construction, but when he sits down, his chair collapses. Thus begins a long shaggy dog story about tracking down the elusive manufacturer, maybe stumbling on a conspiracy and mostly being so distracted he starts screwing up his job. There are subplots and side characters that are about the length of old skits. And mostly, if you’re a Robinson fan, you’ll dig it. The cast includes Lake Bell and Lou Diamond Phillips.
