There’s no getting around the fact that the World Cup is the biggest thing on TV this summer (England vs. Mexico drew an estimated 44.8 million viewers between Fox and Telemundo). Two games in the men’s World Cup quarterfinals today have England vs. Norway (Fox, Telemundo, 5 p.m.) from Miami and Switzerland vs. Argentina (Fox, Telemundo, 9 p.m.) from Kansas City. 

Also big in the sports world today is the all Czech women’s singles final at Wimbledon (11 a.m.) with Karolina Muchova vs. Linda Noskova.

It may seem out of season but a made-for-TV premiere of “O Little Christmas Market” (Hallmark, 8 p.m.) may be a nice break from the summer’s heat dome. Katherine Barrell and Stephen Huszar star in the film about a town’s Christmas market, threatened by a corporate development. 

Christina Millian stars in another original film tonight, “He Couldn’t Let Go” (Lifetime, 8 p.m.) about a dangerous war encounter. Steven Strait, Annie Gonzalez and Gregg Wayans also star. 

“The Long Walk” (HBO, 8 p.m.), the 2025 film based on an early Stephen King novel about a competitive walking contest (don’t stop or risk being shot), mass its premium cable debut. Mark Hamill, Judy Greer and David Jonsson star. 

The first of the two week Sharkfest closes out with “When Sharks Attack…and Why” (National Geographic, 9 p.m.) and “Shark Attack Files” (National Geographic, 10 p.m.). 

“World’s Most Iconic Animals” (Nat Geo Wild, 10 p.m.) makes a predictable choice: lions. 

Chloe is suspected to behind the chaos on “Heart & Hustle: Houston” (OWN, 8 p.m.).

“Village of the Giants” (MeTV, 8 p.m.) is the feature tonight from Svengoolie. 

Author Colson Whitehead picks a pair on Turner Classic Movies tonight. His choices: “The Treasure of the Sierra Madre” (8 p.m.) and “The Killing” (10:15 p.m.). The 12 o’clock noir is “Blues in the Night” (midnight), followed by “The Street Fighter” (1:45 a.m.), “Return of the Street Fighter” (3:30 a.m.) and “The Street Fighter’s Last Revenge” (5 a.m.). The midday matinee of note is “Le Million” (noon). 

Baseball includes Boston at Mets (Fox Sports 1, 4 p.m.), Kansas City at Baltimore (MLB, 7 p.m.), Atlanta at St. Louis (MLB, 7:15 p.m.) and Arizona at Dodgers (MLB, 10 p.m.). 

And today is the baseball draft (NBC, 1 p.m.; MLB, 2:30 p.m.). 

WNBA action includes New York at Minnesota (ABC, 1 p.m.), Portland at Atlanta (CBS, 4 p.m.) and Phoenix at Las Vegas (Peacock, 6 p.m.). 

NBA summer league has Miami vs. Orlando (Prime Video, 3:30 p.m.), New Orleans vs. Charlotte (ESPN, 4 p.m.), Indiana vs. Philadelphia (Prime Video, 5:30 p.m.), New York vs. San Antonio (ESPN, 6 p.m.), Denver vs. Minnesota (Prime Video, 7:30 p.m.), Atlanta vs. Brooklyn (ESPN, 8 p.m.), Houston vs. Toronto (Prime Video, 9:30 p.m.) and Lakers vs. Dallas (ESPN, 10 p.m.).

There is third round play in the Scottish Open (Golf, 10 a.m.; CBS, noon) and second round play in the American Century Championship (NBC, 2:30 p.m.).

NASCAR runs the LIUNA 150 (Fox Sports 1, 1 p.m.) and the Focused Health 250 (CW, 7 p.m.).

The Tour de France (Peacock, 6:30 a.m.; NBC, 8 p.m.) reaches its eighth stage from Périgueux to Bergerac. 

Canadian football has Calgary at Montreal (CBS Sports, 7 p.m.).

Pro softball has Carolina at Texas (ESPN, 2 p.m.) and Chicago at Portland (CBS Sports, 5 p.m.).

Samara Joy plays an episode of “Austin City Limits” (PBS, 11 p.m., check local listings). 

The Harry Styles-hosted “Saturday Night Live” (NBC, 11:30 p.m.) from March is rerun.
