Now that election’s over, the grating ads have disappeared, the number of yard signs are fading and the sharp edged political humor on “Saturday Night Live” has dulled as well.

To wrap up a long election season, the show put together two ho-hum sketches. The first had Jason Sudeikis’ Mitt Romney drinking his disappointment away on the balcony of one of his mansions. The only joke is that he was drinking cartons of milk, not booze. Is there some of Mormon prohibition on milk? Would it have been funnier if he’d been drinking coffee? Who knows?

This one was not so great, with a succession of identical Romney sons comforting him until Karl Rove did as well, and was thrown over the balcony.

The victory lap for Barack Obama’s character came in a toothy Jay Pharoh appearance during Weekend Update. Am I the only person who thought Fred Armisen actually did the better Obama?
Oh well, with political season over, it’s back to the usual on “SNL,” from a sketch about a teenage girlfriends’ talk show to a goofy dance.

Anne Hathaway returned to host, promoting her forthcoming “Les Misrables” in a musical opening by most of the rest of the cast members. She was featured in a number of sketches, though, including the show’s first big takeoff of “Homeland” in which Hathaway didn’t quite capture Clare Danes’ rubbery face, though narration for the sketch did comment on it. She also reprised her imitation of Katie Holmes for an Ellen DeGeneres sketch, and we were reminded again that these are the kinds of impersonations we’ll have to be content with until the next political cycle lumbers to a start.
