theaffairIf there ever was a show that seemed built for a single season it was “The Affair” (Showtime, 9 p.m.). But it went on, with a second season that was about the aftermath of the first and a third that was just about disillusion.

For the fourth season, Noah Soloway has moved to California, following his wife’s move there with the kids after her new partner snared a top job at a hospital. There’s still all of those divorced dad problems struggling to see kids who maybe don’t want to see you anyway. And besides the cast of Dominic West and Maura Tierney (the other couple, Ruth Wilson and Joshua Jackson con’t appear in tonight’s season premiere), “The Affair” has that marvelous conceit of looking at a situation from two sides, which may be more necessary now than ever.

Two stories comprise “Man in an Orange Shirt” on “Masterpiece” (PBS, 9 p.m., check local listings). The first is set just after World war II when homosexuality was all but illegal, then jumps to the present time, when a grandson navigates contemporary gay life.

The new series “Deep State” (Epix, 9 p.m.) may share its title with a discredited right wing U.S. term, it’s actually an imported U.K. action spy series starring Mark Strong as an Mi6 agent brought back into action to avenge the death of his son.

“The Fourth Estate” (Showtime, 8 p.m.) reaches its fourth and final episode, following the New York Times team in the first year of the Trump administration. The actions in 2017 seem so long ago, s former national security adviser Michael Flynn pleas guilty to lying to FBI.

The second season start of “Talking with Chris Hardwick” was yanked at the last minute Saturday after allegations of abuse by a past girlfriend that he denies. What will replace it tonight? Probably a replay of the new episode of “Into the Badlands” (AMC, 10 p.m). The previous seven episodes of the season are run as well today starting at 2:45 p.m.

The second to last new “Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown” (CNN, 9 p.m.) we’ll ever have is set in New Orleans.

Jennifer Lopez and Ray Liotta star in the third and final season of “Shades of Blue” (NBC, 10 p.m.), the police crime drama.

“Wrong Man” (Starz, 9 p.m.) moves to a new case: The murder of four that went to trial six times over 21 years.

Sports stars play “Celebrity Family Feud” (ABC, 8 p.m.). Antony Anderson, Jennifer Lewis, Kevin Smith and Joy Behar compete on “The $100,000 Pyramid” (ABC, 9 p.m.).

Kevin Smith also pops up on “Snoop Dogg Presents the Joker’s Wild” (TBS, 10 p.m.) alongside Seth Rogen and Aubrey Plaza.

John Cena toys with “Total Bellas” (E!, 9 p.m.).

On “Ghosted” (Fox, 9:30 p.m.), Leroy goes to a psychic to see who bugged their office.

The title for tonight’s “Westworld” (HBO, 9 p.m.) is “Vanishing Point,” perhaps describing its former viewership.

Cassie helps Nick out on “I’m Dying Up Here” (Showtime, 10 p.m.).

Sucide bombers explode on “Instinct” (CBS, 8 p.m.).

The stock price keeps dropping on “Succession” (HBO, 10 p.m.).

On a father’s day episode of “The Real Housewives of Potomac” (Bravo, 8 p.m.), Ashley faces the truth why Michael is hesitant to have more children.

On “Claws” (TNT, 9 p.m.), Desna tries to get more customers in the clinic.

Cassie tracks the history of a wedding dress on “Good Witch” (Hallmark, 9 p.m.).

It’s the holidays on “Pose” (FX, 9 p.m.).

Mel Brooks, Joel McHale, Bill Hader and Natasha Leggero are on “To Tell the Truth” (ABC, 10 p.m.).

It’s Luis Guzman vs. Gabriel Iglesias and Charli XCX vs. Tove Lo on “Drop the Mic” (TBS, 10:30 p.m.).

It’s father’s day movies all day long on Turner Classic Movies with “Judge Hardy and Son” (6 a.m.), “Too Much, Too Soon” (7:45 a.m.), “The Pitfall” (10 p.m.), “Father of the Bride” (noon), “Father’s Little Dividend” (2 p.m.), “The Entertainer” (3:30 p.m.), “Death of a Salesman” (5:30 p.m.), “The Courtship of Eddie’s Father” (8 p.m.), “Life with Father” (10:15 p.m.). Then comes a quartet of Harold Lloyd silent comedies starting with “An Eastern Westerner” (12:30 a.m.) and two features from Seijun Suzuki, “Tokyo Driver” (2:30 a.m.) and “Fighting Elegy” (4 a.m.).

In the World Cup, it’s Costa Rica vs. Serbia (Fox, 8 a.m.), Germany vs. Mexico (Fox Sports 1, 11 a.m.) and Brazil vs. Switzerland (Fox Sports 1, 2 p.m.).

Baseball includes Tampa Bay at Yankees (MLB, 2 p.m.), Boston at Seattle (MLB, 5 p.m.) and Cubs at St. Louis (ESPN, 8 p.m.).

The final round is played in golf’s U.S. Open (Fox, 10 a.m.).

In the WNBA it’s Phoenix at Las Vegas (NBA, 8 p.m.).

And NASCAR’s Iowa 250 (Fox Sports 1, 5 p.m.) is run.
