The news department comes up with a six-episode newsmagazine about the Black experience in America with “Soul of a Nation” (ABC, 10 p.m.) that will feature reports, interviews and some performances. Hosts will include Sterling K. Brown, Jemele Hill and Marsai Martin. 

Similarly, Oge Egbuonu looks at struggles of Black women in “OWN Spotlight: (In)Visible Portraits” (OWN, 9 p.m.). 

“New Amsterdam” (NBC, 10 p.m.) returns for its third season just about the time a passenger plane crashes in the East River.

Not enough superheroes on TV? “The Flash” (CW, 8 p.m.) returns for its seventh season as well. 

Catherine Zeta-Jones joins the cast of “Prodigal Son” (Fox, 9 p.m.) as a new shrink.

“FBI” (CBS, 9 p.m.) goes after a a killer; “FBI: Most Wanted” (CBS, 10 p.m.), the team joins a bounty hunter to track down an escaped murder suspect.

The second season of “Race Across the World” (Discovery+, streaming) only happens online. 

One thing that wasn’t surprising in the premiere of “Superman & Lois” (CW, 9 p.m.) was Clark Kent getting laid off at the paper.
