Dick Ebersol’s separation from NBC didn’t last long. After having been unable to come to terms last spring with the new owners of NBC, Comcast, Ebersol left after 22 years of leading the division and several Olympics it covered.

Named as special advisor to NBC Sports president Mark Lazarus, just in time for the kickoff of Sunday Night football Sept 8, Ebersol will also be around to help guide the 2012 Summer Games in London, which like most big sports events on NBC, Ebersol had negotiated to bring to the network.

The Olympics this summer will be executive produced by someone Ebersol hired, Jim Bell, the executive producer of the “Today” show.

Bell, like Ebersol, lives in Connecticut; Bell in Greenwich, Ebersol, a Torrington native, in Litchfield.

Ebersol had also hired the guy who succeeded him, Lazurus.
